Finding Literary Criticism, Biographical or Other Information

for a Particular Author

o         Gale Literature Resource Center (LRC) provides full-text biographical and critical essays, literary timelines that place an author in the context of events around the world during his/her lifetime, links to contemporary authors’ personal appearances, bibliographies of works by and about an author, links to recommended websites related to an author’s life and/or work, link to the Merriam-Webster Encyclopedia of Literature. TIP: If you are not looking for a particular author or work but would like to identify authors by genre (‘young adult book’ is a genre), by date, author ethnicity, themes, or other criteria, choose a ‘Person Search.'

o         Gale Literary Index If you don’t find enough information in your Gale Literature Resource Center search, click on the Gale Literary Index tab in the Literature Resource Center .  GLI serves as an online index to many paper-format literary reference books in our library. GLI allows you to search by title or author of a literary work.  GLI will identify the title(s) of reference book(s) containing information on your title or author.  Look up title of reference work in our library catalog (GLOCAT).

o         Something About the Author(SATA). Contains facts about, interviews with and pictures of contemporary authors and illustrators of books for young people. Some information on authors from this series of books is included in Gale Liteature Resource Center. Paper volumes are shelved on carts in Milne Library's Teacher Education Resource Center.   To search by author of title in paper volumes, use indexes to the entire set located at the back of the highest (most recent) odd-numbered volume, or use the online Gale Literary Index above and/or ask a librarian for assistance.

o         MLA Bibliography Provides citations to scholarly articles in journals, books and dissertations. Ask librarian for assistance if needed.
