CHILDREN’S AND YOUNG ADULT BOOKS

1.    Browse on Juvenile/Young Adult shelves in SUNY Geneseo Teacher Education Resource Center in Milne Library. Most foreign language materials (including bilingual materials) are in the 400s. Spanish is 460 and French is 440. (A few young adult books might be in the 860s or 840s, but the 440s and 460s are the best places to browse.) 

2.   Search in library catalogs:

*      See sample searches for Juvenile and Young Adult books in our library catalog. 

*   Libra Catalog of the Monroe County Library System (adult and children's materials) or Kid’s Catalog of the Monroe County Library System.  If you find items of interest, check if we own them. If not, you may request books through our Information Delivery Services department.

*      Rochester Area Regional Catalog (ROARing CAT)  Especially useful for locating materials in area school libraries.  (Sample search: spanish language and juvenile)  Includes public, college and special libraries also but is not as up to date as searching those library catalogs directly.

*      Kids’ Catalog on OWWL Access (Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston county public libraries)

3.   Scan lists of recommended books

*      Barahona Center for the Study of Books in Spanish for Children and Adolescents (You may search for books in Spanish by grade level and subject as well as “books in English about Latinos.”)

*      Links to other booklists and lesson plan resources

*      Bibliographies and thematic lists of children’s and young adult books that may include books in English related to Spanish-speaking cultures.

*       See Spanish language periodicals for children and young adults in  EduHound.

*       Search under ‘spanish language’ (for periodical articles written  in Spanish) or under a topic related to Spanish culture (for articles primarily  in English) in Primary Search  and InfoTrac Junior
