Search effectively for videos, images, sound effects, songs, etc.

After you graduate: You will often have access to this service through the school where you teach as part of the ‘Video On Demand’ program.

CREATE AN ACCOUNT

§ After clicking on the ‘live’ link to Discovery Education Streaming at the top of this page, enter your Geneseo email username and password as requested in box.

§ On the list that appears, scroll down to Discovery Education Streaming and write down the number provided under ‘create your own account’ (DON’T SELECT SHARED ACCOUNT)

§ Click on ‘create your own account’ link and enter the above number in the boxes for new users on the screen.

§ Fill in the information to create your own account, then enter your username and password under ‘Log In’ on the screen.

ENTER SEARCH ON ADVANCED SCREEN

Click on ‘Advanced Search’ and in the keyword search box, enter a topic word such as 'democracy.' In the Subject box, select an appropriate academic subject related to your keyword, in the case of ‘democracy,’ choose ‘Social Studies.’ Select 'content type' from menu (all types is usually a good idea), You have the option to limit to a grade level but it’s often best to view list of all videos about your topic and if too many appear, then consider limiting search to one or more grade levels.

INTERPRET SEARCH RESULTS / BOOKMARK OR DOWNLOAD ITEMS

For videos, note whether the video has multiple segments. If so, click on link indicating number of segments to see a list of all the segments. Click on a video segment title or a complete video title to view it.

Decide whether to save a video to 'My Content' so that you can quickly navigate to it online again at a later time and/or save it to your desktop or a flash drive for later viewing from your own computer. See download link that accompanies each title for more help. NOTE: YOU MUST REGISTER FOR YOUR OWN ACCOUNT IN ORDER TO USE 'My Content' AND SOME OTHER FEATURES.

CITATION TAB will provide year and producer of video and will allow you to save the citation in APA style format.

INSERT A VIDEO INTO A POWERPOINT PRESENTATION

Save video file in the same folder as the presentation or webpage that will display the video.
